Who we are?
Crafting Tradition Since 1932
At J W Walters, we believe in the simple joys of good food made properly. From quality cuts of meat to freshly made pies, bread and cakes, we take pride in producing food that our customers know and trust.
Based in Stoke-on-Trent, we are a family business with a history stretching back more than 90 years. Our approach is simple: use quality ingredients, take care with what we make and always put our customers first.
Much has changed since J W Walters first opened its doors, but our commitment to quality and tradition remains at the heart of everything we do.
A Journey Through Generations at J W Walters
Founded in 1932 by John William Walters, J W Walters began as a traditional family butcher built on quality, craftsmanship and friendly service. Over three generations, the business has grown while staying true to its roots, expanding to include homemade pies, bread and cakes alongside our traditional butcher’s range.
Now in its third generation, J W Walters remains a proudly independent family business. While much has changed over the decades, our commitment to quality food, traditional methods and serving our local community remains at the heart of everything we do.
The Beginning
John William Walters founded J W Walters as a traditional family butcher in Stoke-on-Trent, building a reputation for quality meat, friendly service and honest values that would become the foundation of the business.
A New Generation
Following the passing of John William Walters, the business was proudly passed to his daughter, Annette Brown, and her husband, Joseph Brown. Together they continued his legacy, preserving the trusted reputation of J W Walters while preparing the business for the future.
The Bakery is Born
Seeing an opportunity to expand the family business, Stuart Brown introduced the bakery. Fresh bread, homemade pies and delicious cakes were added alongside the traditional butchery, creating the J W Walters customers know and love today.
Continuing the Tradition
After the passing of Annette Brown, the business passed into the hands of the third generation, Stuart Brown and Suzanne Hampson. Today they continue to uphold the family’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship and personal service, proudly serving the local community just as their predecessors did.
Still Family. Still Local.
More than 90 years after John William Walters first opened the doors, J W Walters remains a proudly independent family business. While much has changed over the decades, our commitment to quality food, traditional values and serving our local community remains exactly the same.
